KEY POINTS:
Meetings are being held around the country to gather feedback on a proposed overhaul of the real estate sector.
Associate Justice Minister Clayton Cosgrove is holding meetings in Hastings, Christchurch and Auckland this week.
The Auckland meeting is tomorrow at 6pm at the jury assembly room on level three of the Auckland District Court building in Albert St.
Cosgrove said he was keen to hear people's stories and get their feedback on the overhaul.
He said people's greatest asset was often their home so it was paramount that they have access to an independent, transparent and effective disciplinary process should they feel they had been done over or ripped off.
A new structure to investigate the complaints would be funded by the industry, not the taxpayer, and the new complaints system would be low or no cost to the consumer.
Last week, Cosgrove said he would hold a series of community meetings around the country to hear public views on the Government's preferred options.
People have until July 10 to make submissions on the proposals.
Cosgrove is aiming to introduce a bill to amend the Real Estate Agents Act 1976 within the next few months, with the aim of passing the legislation by late this year or early next year.
He is holding a community meeting to get feedback in Wellington next Wednesday. That will be at 6pm in the jury assembly room on level three of the Wellington District Court.
