He describes the concrete, glass, pressed metal and timber building of 20 apartments as glamorous. "They are a boutique style in a premium location, have a high level of design and offer an amazing price point for this location."
Legacy's brief to architect firm TOA was for efficiently sized apartment layouts of high quality and design to create affordable luxury in this premium location.
"The structure and exterior is a combination of concrete, glass, pressed metal and timber," he says. "We have an amazing facade feature by Thermosash, which is top quality.
"TOA are the architects and have done a great job with the design."
The builders are Q Construction, which has been involved from the project conception, and Sonya Cotter is responsible for the interior design.
"Sonya has really thought through the kitchen designs and maximised the space," says Mitchell. "The bench tops are a beautiful stone and the cabinetry is a mix of super matt and super gloss surfaces. Appliances are all Fisher & Paykel with integrated DishDrawer and fridge as well as induction cooking."
The contemporary interiors feature 2.7m stud heights, timber floors and LED lighting. The sheltered decks are wrapped floor to ceiling in timber. The apartments have a level 6 (high performing) Homestar rating.
The Aria units are being sold unfurnished but owners can buy a furnishing package that has been selected to suit the style and space of the building.
Most apartments are between 56 and 74sq m. There are four levels of apartments and two other basement/ground levels. There is also one commercial space on the ground floor which is likely to be an office or showroom. "We have one-bedroom, one-plus-study and two-bedroom apartments," he says. "All with decks. Both single and tandem carparks within the building are available, as well as motorbike parking."
Most apartments face north and some have elevated views over Ponsonby and Grey Lynn.
"The others front Vinegar Lane which is going to be an eclectic and vibrant lane," says Mitchell.
"It was the site of the unfavoured Soho development, which is soon to be a distant memory."
Legacy has completed two other apartment buildings in Auckland and several in Christchurch over the past 11 years.
"We also have another apartment building currently under construction in Ponsonby at 43 Brown St," says Mitchell.
People can buy off the plans now. "Buying off the plans is very easy," says Mitchell. "A deposit of 10 per cent is required, however. Home bonds are available in lieu of a deposit."
