There's a sumptuous new crop ready to be harvested at this former strawberry patch - an extraordinarily luxurious country estate which took some inspiration from golfer Greg Norman's Florida mansion.
This lavish Coatesville property is the latest, finest, largest (and most expensive) estate in a very exclusive subdivision being developed by K and J Quality Homes on almost 17ha of prime land.
Developer John Kraft owned Kraftberry strawberry gardens on this land before deciding to develop it, becoming one of K and J's two directors and project manager for the homes.
John explains: "My vision was to create Auckland's most luxurious and exclusive subdivision and for this to be the most fantastic property in it. No expense has been spared."
When architectural designer Bryan Airey (of Award Homes) showed him images of top-notch international homes, the exterior of Greg Norman's Florida retreat caught John's eye.
"I thought, 'That's the sort of classically timeless look and incredibly special house we want', so that provided some of the inspiration for the exterior."
It's been realised in plaster over brick (with a cavity system), interspersed with a substantial amount of schist. Interior designer Peta Tearle and Gudrun Fischer Outdoor Design also played big roles in creating this pinnacle property for the ultra-premium subdivision.
It's hard to concisely sum up 1450sq m of home, but imagine an enduringly elegant retreat with a plethora of living spaces and superb specifications. Now imagine it extending across a central living hub, a master wing, children's wing, guest wing, gymnasium (or work-from-home suite) and self-contained apartment. And that's complemented by a lavish separate pool/entertainment house, which at 210sq m is the size of some folk's entire homes.
Entry is grand, with the sweeping circular driveway culminating in a fountained garden. Solid cedar entry doors open into a double-height reception area where a huge hand-forged chandelier reigns over American oak floors.
An impressive double staircase ascends from here to the roomy "bridge" providing central flow to the first floor.
Guests are welcomed through to the lofty "Great Room", a voluminous living space where the stud height peaks at 9m. Its scale is matched by a towering schist chimney breast and two more huge, hand-forged chandeliers.
It incorporates a full-service wet bar and a 1570-bottle, temperature-controlled wine cellar is nearby. John calls the neighbouring formal lounge with schist feature wall "the Cigar Room" because of its cultivated ambience.
The Great Room extends through to a dining room, family room and striking kitchen with scullery. Its big curved central island and the splashback feature mosaic marble, gleaming alongside cabinetry in American oak or glossy lacquer. Superior specifications include a built-in coffee machine, a clever electronic system controlling opening of the curved cabinetry and a complete additional suite of appliances in the scullery.
The multiple north-facing living areas all open out to outdoor entertaining areas swathed in paved terraces and set against impressive rural views. There's a water feature near the glistening 25m heated pool with automated safety cover.
Calling the adjacent separate building a "pool house" seems a tad modest. After all, it offers an entertaining-dining-living area, kitchen with purpose-built teppanyaki bar, separate lounge with double-sided gas fireplace, games room, bar, spa room and inbuilt sauna.
Back in the main lodge, there's also a fully-outfitted ground-floor media room, a computer room and a library/study concealing nifty hidden storage behind bookshelves. A multi-room area intended as a gymnasium would also suit working from home.
With master, guest and children's wings, plus a self-contained apartment on offer, the lodge tallies eight big bedrooms, eight sumptuous bathrooms and a powder room.
The guest and children's wings have their own lounges and the first floor's central bridge provides a gallery-style living area with grand piano (included with the sale).
The drop-dead-gorgeous master suite showcases the sort of first-class living which permeates the home. It's got its own deck, his'n' hers walk-in wardrobes and an extensive en suite awash with marble, including a free-standing bath, two vanities and a double shower. Parents wanting proximity to younger children can accommodate them in two bedrooms across from the master suite.
The eastern apartment with living-dining-kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and single garage lends itself to extended family or a very lucky maid or nanny. Five more cars can be housed in the main garage.
And should prospective buyers want more than the current 2ha, some 2ha of neighbouring land is also available to buy.
