Bernie says: "Here the city comes to you rather than having to go to it. Within just a few minutes' walk are the Fish Market, North Wharf and Jellicoe St restaurants, Te Wero bridge, the Events Centre and downtown Auckland.
"The latest addition is the Auckland Waterfront Theatre, about to open soon and just 300m away. Victoria Park, Ponsonby and Herne Bay are just a short distance away."
Bernie and Mary enjoy walking to cultural events downtown or using public transport from nearby bus stops or Britomart to events further afield such as the tennis at Stanley St or rugby at Eden Park.
The layout of the apartment is designed for an easy flow between living and sleeping quarters. As well as two decks, the apartment has formal and informal dining areas. In addition to a generous en suite with his-and-hers vanities, the master bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe.
Bernie says the on-site amenities are "unmatched in Central Auckland".
"Lighter Quay offers a large internal parking podium for family and friends who visit. Two underground car parks for this apartment [are] very handily located by the lift well, a gymnasium, swimming pool, spa and sauna. There is a storage locker above one car park, although in fact there is plenty of storage within the apartment."
Bernie and Mary are downsizing and hope to secure a studio or one-bedroom apartment within the complex or nearby. This will be for midweek living and ongoing enjoyment of the inner city lifestyle. It is an easy 20-minute commute for Bernie to his part-time work in West Auckland against the traffic. The couple intend to make their beach place at Orewa their primary residence and eventually retire there.
