Kellee says they kept its footprint but changed just about everything else to create an upmarket contemporary home.
The fenced property is up a long driveway on a unit title sharing 1740sq m of beachfront land with its front neighbour. Both have riparian rights and share direct beach access, which is gated.
Each home has dedicated grounds, including this one's level stretch of lawn and off-street parking area bolstering its internal-access double garage.
There's also common property, including the landscaped beachfront area where wide gated steps lead on to the sand, passing two old defence bunkers.
Extra-tall double doors introduce the three-storey home, which is constructed of two levels of plaster-with-cavity above a lower level of block. A grand double-height atrium creates instant impact; feeling light and open thanks to glass balustrading around its staircase.
Views are immediate, beckoning visitors across heated Turkish stone floors to the wide open-plan lounge-dining-family room revelling in its outlook.
Living flows out to a long covered deck admiring the seascape; elevated enough to deliver a panoramic vista yet immediate enough to make out the action.
Kellee says: "We sit out on this deck all the time, even in winter. It's great because the beach is ever-changing and you can watch people down there but they don't really see you. We see right out to Murrays Bay, Browns Bay, Torbay and Gulf Harbour.
"It's a north-facing house and the sun just absolutely pours in."
She appreciates being able to tuck any preparation mess away in the butler's pantry off the entertainers' kitchen, which includes granite benches and one-and-a-half ovens.
"It's a brilliant house for socialising and parties. The kids go off to bed upstairs and you can spread out across the other two levels."
This middle level also has a powder room, the garage, the laundry -- with sea view -- and external stairs down to the lawn.
Upstairs the master suite with walk-in wardrobe and en suite and another bedroom share great views and access to a wide deck.
"I love waking up in the morning to the sound of the waves and the view, which I can still look at brushing my teeth in the en suite."
This level also has a third bedroom and the family bathroom with spa bath.
Downstairs works well for children, teens or guests. Kellee and James' sons Remo, 11 and Dom, 8, like gaming here in the third living area with kitchenette. It opens to a patio by the property's level lawn. The fourth bedroom, third bathroom, a wine cellar plus a storage room complete this level.
The location has made it easy for the family to enjoy favourite water sports including paddleboarding and for Kellee to run along the beach daily.
After 15 years here the Locks and their Dalmatian George are ready to spread their wings. Kellee says they were so pleased with the way this home turned out she can imagine taking on another big renovation.
