Holly Docherty misses the ease of living in the city. Now working on the Shore, she is living with her parents, but this freehold apartment at The Pullman was her base when she was at university, at first with her sister Rose while she was at ACG and later with a flatmate.
The apartment was originally a studio apartment combined with a one-bedroom apartment. The rooms are spacious, each has a bathroom and slider glass doors open to private balconies.
Bedrooms are on either side of the lounge and full-size kitchen (with F&P appliances), and each bedroom/bathroom has laundry washer/dryer facilities.
The rooms are on level five with access from the Quadrant Crescent lobby entrance on level two.
Holly's apartment faces northwest, looking at the character buildings in Princes St. From the apartment's three balconies you get peeks of Sky City and the harbour bridge.
The apartment gets afternoon sun, which is a good time to open the doors and let in fresh air.
"I had the door open most of the time," says Holly. "Now that I am living at my parents' place, I had forgotten what it was like having flies and mosquitoes. We didn't get those."
Holly bought the apartment with her parents, Alison and Rob, in 2011.
"It was great as the university was across the road and ACG is just down by the library."
What appealed about the Pullman was the apartment's size and the security aspect.
"The big thing was the security as my sister was still at school. With the front desk staffed 24/7, there was always someone around."
The sisters enjoyed being close to the Domain, Queen St, the library and cinemas.
"It is all so central. We did a few New Years here; we could go down to the Viaduct," says Holly.
Residents can use the hotel gym and pool which is open from 6am to 10pm, says Holly. "The pool is also gorgeous."
A new owner would have the option of putting the apartment into the hotel stock, as the building has mixed use of apartments and hotel rooms.
Holly is selling to buy a house. "I have been here five years now which is a good chunk of my life, and my work being based on the Shore, it's the right time for me to move on".
She thinks the apartment will appeal to young couples or investors, plus it is a good size for a family.
"What I do miss is being so close to everything, it's so easy to get around. And I am going to have to find a place with a big bathroom as I love that, and the air conditioning."
The apartment is quiet - "which surprised me when I started living here. A neighbour apologised for playing his music loud and I never heard a thing. They must have very good sound proofing as you only hear the street noises if you open the balcony doors. I was stoked about that".
She says a lot of the residents are business couples. And she thinks the body corp fees, paid monthly, work well as they include upkeep of common areas, electricity and water charges, and building insurance.
The apartment has been painted, has new carpet and fibre broadband. There's also a carpark.
