One of Auckland's most breathtaking addresses is on the market for a cool $4.6 million.
The penthouse apartment on the 38th and top floor of the Metropolis tower has 360-degree views over the city and Waitemata Harbour.
It was originally intended as a luxury two-storey base for Andrew Krukziener the former rich lister who developed the building but was instead sold for $3.33m in 2003.
The present owners divided the penthouse into two, but redevelopment work stopped there. The doors of the private lift part to reveal something that looks more like a major renovation project than a luxury penthouse.
Pink insulation is exposed and holes in the plaster board await light fittings and plug sockets. Sawdust is on the floor and wires hang from the ceiling.
Ray White agent Virgil Roberts of Ray White is selling the 465sq m penthouse including two 56sq m decks which he described as a "section in the sky."
Roberts said it was essentially a blank canvas the new owners could design to their taste.
"This is the opportunity to have fun and conjure up something totally different. There's nothing else available that has the views and prestige like this.
"It's the opportunity for someone to say 'I'm the king of the castle, I've got the best spot'."
The penthouse has wall-to-ceiling windows. One of the decks overlooks the city and harbour to Rangitoto and beyond. The other takes in Albert Park and Auckland University.
There are four bedrooms (each with an ensuite), four car parks and access to a shared gym and pool.
Roberts has had interest from local investors and five inquiries from overseas, including Singapore and the UK.
The penthouse has a QV rating of $3.3m. It will be sold by a private treaty set to expire on December 17.
