The location is great, says Alan Penny of his penthouse in The Peaks apartment building - especially considering the future transport links in the city.
"The rail link is just a short walk down Victoria St. Queen St is five minutes, Albert Park one way, Victoria Park the other way, and you also have the Viaduct close by," he says.
"Sky Tower is literally just across the road, and the new convention centre is soon to be finished on the other side.
"We are on the ridge with views out to Mt Eden facing south-east. The morning sun streams into the apartment.
He purchased this 14th-level, two-storey penthouse with his friend Mike Magill in May last year.
They had looked at other apartments but decided on this freehold space with three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a balcony looking straight at the Sky Tower. Two car parks are allocated to the penthouse.
There are only five apartments per floor.
They have been living here with Mike's partner Jane, but moved out recently so carpet could be laid as they prepared the penthouse for sale.
The apartment's large front door ("larger than other apartments, making furniture moving a lot easier," says Alan) opens to a wide hallway. This leads upstairs to the bedrooms or straight through to the lounge with a downstairs toilet and hand basin on your left.
Double doors open to the lounge and dining area. These doors can be kept closed as access to lounge, dining and kitchen is also available through another door just past the downstairs bathroom.
The granite-benched kitchen has a breakfast bar area, and a dining area is close to an electric fireplace. "This is a lovely feature on the colder evenings or you can just switch the lights on the fire to set the scene," Alan says.
Walking up the stairs to the second level, wall lights show the way plus there is the feature hallway light with 25 hanging pendants near the curved landing overlooking the entrance.
This upper level has three bedrooms (two doubles and then the larger master bedroom with en suite and walk-in wardrobe). The main bathroom has a built-in laundry plus a spa bath and shower over.
During their time here Alan and Mike have repainted ceilings and walls, upgraded and changed lighting, had new carpet laid, added new bedroom wardrobe mirror doors and new blinds.
There is a great mix of people in The Peaks, says Alan. "Many are overseas for months at a time and are generally owner-occupiers."
He thinks the penthouse would suit an owner-occupier who wants everything on their doorstep with lots of space.
"We are selling the property because our situations have changed since last year and we both would like to move on to other ventures."
