Bunnings has secured resource consent to build its newest Bunnings Warehouse on the corner of Wairau Rd and Archers Rd in Glenfield on a site recently vacated by 3M.
Bunnings is well advanced with its plans to redevelop the site, says general manager Rod Caust.
Demolition of the 3M building is expected to commence within the next three months and construction will follow soon after, with a projected opening date of the new Bunnings store in July next year.
"We are proud that our newest Bunnings development will be on such a high-profile Auckland site," says Caust.
"We are totally committed to our store roll out programme and providing a comprehensive home improvement and building trade offer to the people of the North Shore.
"We have been awaiting this decision for sometime, and have pressed ahead with the tender process for the construction of the new building. Bunnings is pleased to announce that Dominion Construction has won the tender process and will be immediately commencing work on the design build project."
The property has a land area of 2.3ha and the Bunnings development will occupy the entire corner, giving the store high visibility from the northern SH1 motorway.
The Bunnings Warehouse building will have a total area of 11,400sq m including a garden nursery, DIY retail area and trade sales area. Parking for 257 cars will be provided.
Bunnings says the resource consent application was publicly notified by North Shore City Council in May and submissions were received from eight parties.
The matter was heard before a panel of commissioners in August last year and the North Shore City Council planning officer's report recommended the application be approved.
"The hearing commissioners, however, declined the application on a very limited basis relating to the design of the site access points," Bunnings said.
"Bunnings subsequently appealed the consent decision and the consent was granted in the Environment Court. The court granted the consent as result of an out-of-court agreement reached between the relevant parties, which demonstrated that access arrangements would not cause an issue for the local road network." Bunnings currently has a store at Constellation Drive on the opposite side of the Northern Motorway.
The new warehouse will complement the existing store and create 120 new jobs for locals and will provide those living in Auckland's North Shore with a comprehensive DIY and trade offer.
Caust says the new Glenfield Bunnings Warehouse will be a worthy addition to the existing Auckland store network that includes Botany, Manukau, Mt Roskill and North Shore warehouses and the recently announced new store to be constructed in Mt Wellington.
