The address of this apartment and office building is simply 71 Symonds St, although it briefly did sport the name Wall Street Tower.
But Barry Kirby, who has just finished converting office space into a full floor apartment on level three, says a few years after the 1987 sharemarket crash the building's owners felt the street name was preferable to what seemed an inappropriate name.
The concrete and steel freehold building was completed in 1987 and Barry bought this level with Yovanka Tomitch in 2003.
At first, they used it as offices but always felt it would work well as an apartment.
For the conversion from commercial to residential, Barry worked with an architect for the layout and refit.
He and Yovanka wanted an emphasis on space in every room, especially in the bedrooms. "So many city apartments look small," says Yovanka.
Their apartment conversion was finished last month, following the trend in the building where five of the nine levels are now apartments. On the ground level is Cafe Crema.
From the secure-access lift you step straight into the main living space, with a new kitchen and its granite bench, soft-close drawers and Fisher & Paykel double oven, electric cooktop and double DishDrawers.
There are two lounge areas in this open space, plus dining.
Both sides of this living space have views of the city, harbour and Rangitoto.
The feeling of space is heightened by the 2.7m stud.
The laundry is in a cupboard by the door to the internal stairs.
Past the kitchen are three bedrooms, with great views, and generous wardrobes. The master bedroom has an en suite and the others share a bathroom with a jacuzzi bath.
There is zone-controlled air conditioning.
"And the building was re-clad nine years ago," says Barry.
Yovanka and Barry say the great thing about someone considering buying this apartment is they will be the first people to live here, enjoying the new carpet, paintwork and kitchen and bathroom fittings.
"Whole floor apartments are rare and it is a large apartment," says Barry.
Because it has windows on all sides, it enjoys all-day sun, from 8am until late afternoon at this time of the year.
The apartment is handy to the CBD, restaurants, bars, the Domain, Auckland Hospital and Auckland University.
The couple had intended to live here but have decided to sell and buy a two-bedroom apartment.
"But I don't think we will find another as nice as this one," says Barry. "You have the spaciousness, many windows, you own the whole floor, and it's a great location."
The sale includes a secure carpark in the building.
