The old Mangonui Post Office building is a picturesque, historic, waterfront landmark in the Mangonui Village conservation zone in Doubtless Bay, Northland.
Leased as a restaurant and bar with street-side tables and adjoining accommodation, it was built in 1904 when it operated as shops and offices.
At 114 Waterfront Rd, the property is on the west side of Beach Rd, opposite the Mangonui Harbour and between the Court House and Mangonui Hotel.
With a wide frontage, it enjoys excellent pedestrian flow in the most intensely developed commercial area of Mangonui.
The Doubtless Bay area is steeped in history. It has played host to many seafarers, including Captain James Cook, who named the bay, and the French explorer de Surville, who anchored here.
Today, the lure of the uncrowded beaches and wide-open spaces make it a popular tourist and retirement destination.
The township is well served with amenities, shops, cafes and restaurants. The modern shopping centre at Coopers Beach includes a medical centre and a pharmacy.
Glenda Turner of Ray White, Mark Saxton Real Estate, Mangonui, is taking the 333.8 sq m property on 786 sq m to auction on Saturday, December 1, at 12.30 pm. Ph Glenda 09 406 0579 bus; 09 406 0210 ah; 0274 585 920 mob.
