When Peter and Jane Hughes-Hallett bought this two-bedroom Hereford Residences apartment off the plans in 2014, they knew they were committing to a high-quality development.
That confidence came from talking directly to the people responsible for the apartment conversion in the building that had been the commercial home to Baycorp.
"We had not been a customer of the Tawera Group properties before," says Peter.
"So the ability to talk, meet and work with David Mahoney, the managing director, and his team to get the design features we wanted was great.
"We looked at other developments by the group and liked what we saw - the quality of the build and finish."
Peter and Jane had returned to Auckland after living in Tokyo for 12 years. They had enjoyed apartment living immensely in that city and were keen to buy in Auckland.
They started their search by looking at the Tawera Group's Hopetoun development across the road from the Hereford Residences.
"We liked that, however we really did not find the right apartment for us at that time in that development. So we went to see what the Hereford Residences plans were like.
"We liked the location and that it was to have its own library/billiard room, gym, infinity pool, and tennis facilities, along with concierge services. And, importantly, it was dog-friendly.
"These were important as we were planning to spend a great deal of time in Auckland."
Another bonus was the variety of design and layout offered by the 122 apartments over 20 levels. And they could customise the layout to their needs.
"The location of Hereford was also important," Peter says.
"It is close to Ponsonby and the city, with little to no chance to be built out."
Their two-bedroom, two bathroom apartment is on the seventh floor facing north-east, with harbour and city views.
When you enter, the second bedroom is on the left, then a bathroom (incorporating the laundry).
To the right is the kitchen - with Bosch and F&P appliances - that is open to the living and dining area and northeast facing deck.
Off the living area, at the northeast corner of the apartment, is the main bedroom with en suite.
"We converted part of a very large deck into internal living space while still leaving a deck that was perfect for our needs," says Peter.
"We added power points in both bathrooms for the plan to install bidets, a water tap and power points on the deck as well as double Dish Drawers in the kitchen."
Although Peter and Jane had intended to live here, they are now selling.
"Our plan was to spend a great deal of time in Auckland. However, those plans have changed."
They think their freehold apartment will appeal to young professionals wanting to be close to, but not in, the city.
