"Sales of more than $4.5m for the last financial year, healthy consistent margins, fixed assets over $200,000, stock of about $70,000 and a cash surplus to a working owner of almost $215,000 makes this an attractive proposition for a new owner. At $380,000 plus stock the business is very well priced," says Leng.
Kiwis have grown up with the Mad Butcher since the 1970s, he adds.
"This brand has been successful due to having community butchery stores and offering quality New Zealand meat at competitive pricing. All of this with high service standards from a great team of people."
The vendor usually works normal full-time hours five days a week in a general management role.
Leng says the vendor is supported by a store manager, assistant manager, senior butcher and senior meat packer; staff who have been with the business for more than 14 years.
A further 10 staff work either full or part-time, including a 2IC, a butcher, full and part-time shop assistants/packers, a part-time cleaner and admin person.
This franchised business is part of the Mad Butcher chain, which has of 31 stores across New Zealand.
"The franchisor provides all the support expected, including collective buying power, national marketing as well as proven systems and processes to help any Mad Butcher owner run the business effectively," says Leng.
He goes on to say the eventual purchaser does not necessarily need to be a butcher to run the business, as there is a comprehensive team of butchers on-site as well as a management structure.
"The business would suit someone who is good with people and likes being involved with the local community, as well as having a good understanding of general management."
