CEDRIC GRAY checks out a landmark rural property in the heart of wine country.

The little white house on the hill, as it is known, enjoys commanding views across the valley.

The house is a landmark in Matua Valley, a few kilometres from Waimauku, north-west of Auckland. The beautiful area was little known outside the region until Matua Valley Wines opened its now internationally-acclaimed winery in 1977.
