Designed with relaxed, rural, family living in mind, this peaceful and private property offers fabulous views and a comfortable home. By CEDRIC GRAY.
For the Trenter family of Kawakawa Bay, the forthcoming auction of their neat South Auckland property could represent a mission accomplished.
Karl and Marie Trenter bought their 7,967sq m property at 999 Clevedon Kawakawa Rd 11 years ago, anxious to raise their family in a rural environment. Everything has gone to plan.
"The children have had a wonderful time," says Karl. "They've played cricket and rugby on the front lawn; as a family we have enjoyed camping, tramping and swimming. The school bus stops at the end of the drive. It has been a great environment for them."
The north-facing property, with views of the Hauraki Gulf sweeping to Waiheke Island, is like an oasis in the centre of large dry stock farms - the latter ensuring peace and privacy.
And the 999 address is significant. "It is 9.99km from Clevedon Fire Station," says Karl with a smile. Kawakawa Bay is 4.5km to the east and there is small boat access to good fishing grounds through the mangrove coastline across the road.
"We really have enjoyed the best of everything, but with the children growing older we are now ready for another challenge," says Karl, referring to a planned move to the Taupo region. "We want to try our hands at skiing and there are a few trout down there I want to catch."
The property, which will be auctioned by Bayleys, Papakura, on June 11, has been described with every justification as a hidden treasure. Mature trees provide colour from spring through to late autumn, and they extend from the road frontage to four paddocks in good pasture at the rear of the property. The paddocks have grazed a few sheep and young cattle, and would be equally suited to a pony or two.
A keen gardener, Marie has established an excellent vegetable garden, and there is a tidy orchard.
The three-bedroom, batten-and-board home - built about 30 years ago on two levels - captures the best of the views from the spacious lounge, family dining room and well-appointed kitchen. Sarked timber ceilings and the open-plan design give the impression of space to spare, and this is further enhanced by the easy flow to a brick outdoor entertaining area.entral bathroom features a claw foot bath, and the master bedroom enjoys an attractive en suite. All the bedrooms are on a slightly lower level, yet still within easy reach of the main living areas.
