All about the outdoors is this Dairy Flat property to die for. By CEDRIC GRAY.
Shane and Tracey Dalton were attracted to their 10.96ha property at Dairy Flat because it offered peace, privacy and stunning rural beauty. And it will remain that way in spite of the rapid urban growth of the Hibiscus Coast to the north, nearby Albany and the North Shore. Most of the property is in protected native bush.
The property is tucked away at the end of Three Oaks Dr, a quiet cul-de-sac lined by impressive lifestyle units. It is a comfortable 10-minute drive to the Albany Megacentre.
The bush has been left to flourish. It covers about 9ha, and even to the Daltons the flora and fauna largely remain a mystery. The Daltons prefer to admire it, rather than tap into its secrets.
"There are rata vines down there. I've seen the lovely red flowers," says Tracey. "And there is a short bush track. But really, we haven't ventured much further."
The Daltons have also appreciated the bird life, which has made the bush their home - tui, fantails and native pigeons are among the permanent residents. A stream flows through the bush to form the southern boundary.
Three paddocks offer good grazing for a few sheep. The pasture would be equally suited to a pony or two.
The magnificent five-bedroom home won a bronze medal in the 2004 Auckland Master Builders' competition. Built by Jennian Homes, it occupies a slightly elevated site at the end of a driveway lined by post-and-rail fencing. It commands brilliant views across bush, forest and farmland.
The home, completed in December, features a stylish entrance foyer and spacious family areas, the latter enjoying the best of the views. Australian kwila hardwood flooring enhances the smooth flow between the modern kitchen, family area and formal lounge. There is ranchslider access to a neat outdoor patio.
A guest bedroom is at one end of the house, the remaining bedrooms being situated in an accommodation wing where the master bedroom has an en suite and walk-in wardrobe. There is large two-car garaging, a separate laundry and plenty of storage.
There is ample room close to the house for a swimming pool and tennis court.
The property is for sale through Professionals, Albany, where Nigel Smith has details. Contact him on 415 6777 or 021 434 917.
