Cath and Chris Poulter describe their 1960s Modernist home in Abbotts Way first and foremost as a family home. "It's efficient and intimate," says Chris. "A big part of what we enjoy about this home is the whole family is together. Your kids aren't off in a different wing of the house."
"This is not a huge house, but it's the right size for us. And there is the option of having the downstairs area for your children."
The couple say they searched for two years to find a house in the right location at the right price after returning to New Zealand in the mid-2000s from the US.
Now, not only do they have their own 958sq m, with mature trees, they also look out to a vacant section and have Abbotts Park nearby. Chris and Cath set about restoring it to its former glory as designed by Brian Keys, a draughtsman when he worked on the three-bedroom home but now a registered architect. Chris says the construction and workmanship throughout the home is admirable."You drill into the walls and it's all rimu studs."
