Prestigious new homes arising from the ashes of the infamous Madeleine Ave state housing area are having a positive spin-off on its neighbouring streets.
The on-going redevelopment in the newly named Mt Taylor Dr, has seen four-bedroom family homes coming onto the market and selling from $400,000.
As a result, home owners in surrounding streets who were previously reluctant to market their homes, are now confident about selling their homes and trading up.
Most of Glendowie's homes have generous sections which, because of their zoning, can not be cross-leased. Many of these post-war homes are now ready for redevelopment and are attractive to buyers wanting to undertake extensive renovations or demolish the old homes and build anew.
Glendowie's million-dollar water's edge homes continue to attract attention but, as in other waterfront suburbs, few come onto the market. Glendowie is often overlooked because of its peninsula location and many a buyer looking at homes in nearby St Heliers has bought into Glendowie on the recommendation of friends.
