A fire in Te Puke caused significant damage to a 120 square metre house in the early hours of this morning.
Northern fire communications spokesman Jaron Phillips said the fire had since been extinguished, however it was "well involved" when the fire service arrived.
No one was in the single story Western Bay of Plenty property when fire crews arrived after 6.20am, he said.
"Firefighters have made access into the house, they've searched all the rooms and no one's been located."
It was yet to be determined whether the fire was suspicious, however fire investigators would be looking into it, Mr Phillips said.
