Time and again Jan and Bill Hanning had turned away agents knocking on the door of their Remuera house they'd lived in for 10 years, offering buyers. But earlier this spring, just as they had begun thinking it was time to move out of their larger family home into something smaller, they received another knock on the door.
"We accepted an offer, and then suddenly we had to start looking for a house" says Bill.
With three grown sons and three grown daughters between them, plus grandchildren, the couple set their sights on a place near the beach that would be easy care for them but with plenty of room for visitors.
Bill and Jan liked the look of the townhouses built by family developers Tonni and Jenny de Geest, featured in Heraldhomes Wednesday September 7. The homes were not ultra-modern, there was an air of tradition with their masonry and copper finishes, it seemed like easy living with plenty of outdoor space.
The views of the water were an added bonus.
Bill was delighted to discover walkways at the end of a nearby cul de sac that drop into Madills Farm and then to the beach. After the friendly neighbourhood shopping area of their local Benson Road, they are looking forward to the same kind of ease of village living in Kohi. With the gardens all done, there is only the fun of decorating and window treatments for Jan, and long beach walks for Bill to look forward to.
