Rangimarie, 825 Wyuna Bay Road, Coromandel.
Peter Arnesen thinks the name of his Coromandel getaway, Rangimarie, is pretty apt. It means peace, quiet and goodwill.
He's right that the name suits this place. Set on 4.68 hectares, the property is on the water's edge, with 300m of private beach. Rangimarie has riparian rights, and comes with a boatshed and ramp.
Also helping the property live up to its name is an abundance of native bush, including rimu, kauri, pohutukawa and nikau palms. There are bush walks established through the flora for the owners and guests to enjoy.
What makes Peter and family feel especially rested here is there is no lawn mowing, window washing or general maintenance. A caretaker lives in a separate cottage on the property. He is happy to stay on when the property is sold.
The caretaker makes his presence felt before Peter and family arrive by airing the house in summer or turning on the central heating or lighting the open fire in winter.
The Arnesens live in Tauranga, from where it's about a two hour drive to Rangimarie. Peter says it's about the same from Auckland or Hamilton. The Coromandel township is only 3km away, so it's easy to stock up on supplies before retreating to the privacy of Rangimarie.
Built around the turn of last century, the main house has been improved over the years, with the last bout of renovations in the early 1990s. While the house is extremely comfortable as it is, there is scope for new owners to put their own stamp on it.
Sleeping 11, the house has four bedrooms. The master suite has a large dressing room area, as well as an enormous en suite . Next to it is a further bedroom, with its own en suite. A further bedroom, office, bunkroom and toilet are connected by a portico.
There are also copious facilities for leisure. There's a big, L-shaped living space, a formal dining room with its own courtyard, a covered barbecue area and, most spectacularly, a heated pool that overlooks the water.
The 15m pool incorporates a lap pool for more serious swimming training, as well as a shallower area for playing. It is well lit for night time use.
The boatshed and a tractor come with the property, as well as all the furniture as chattels. Peter says he would love to spend more days in the sun here, but he and his family just don't have the time.
