Kim Hutchison can't help sounding like a walking billboard for her fabulous new apartment in the Apex building, a new complex tucked a block behind the Ponsonby and Jervois Road corner. It's not as if the mortgage broker and her husband Lance are new to apartment living, as they've long been apartment owners in Ellerslie and Remuera.
"But we should have lived in Ponsonby years ago," enthuses Kim. "And the neighbours are so friendly, you can tell there's a sense of community already. We're already eyeing up a communal barbecue spot."
The couple have timed the walk to their regular GPK at six minutes, Lance buses to his city job, and Kim picks up dinner supplies at Dida's, the abundant deli around the corner on Jervois Road. They are rejoicing at the new cafe opened by the Rocco folks on the ground floor of their building.
Kim is full of praise for the clever design of their two-bedroom apartment, a collaboration between developer Greer Stephens and architect Greg Jones (and featured in Heraldhomes on March 18). The generous 3.2m stud, glazed window walls and ceiling height sliding doors make the two-bedroom space feel more generous than Kim and Lance's previous traditionally styled three-bedroom flats. The only change the couple made was to add a flat screen TV. They are delighted with the standard of the Matisse-supplied kitchen and fittings throughout.
"The apartment is lock up and leave," says Kim. "We plan to do some more travelling, but this is such a stylish way of living we won't be away for long. We just love it."
