"And because of my girl, we chose the Quadrant, we wanted her to have security and here there is always someone at reception, and next door at the Pullman.
"Also it is close to my work at Britomart and I could park my car here, on level four which is the basement. You go into the car parking between the Quadrant and the Pullman, and the exit is on Eden Crescent.
"A bonus was we could use the Pullman facilities at just $150 a year -- the spa, gym, pool, jacuzzi and steam bath. That agreement between the Quadrant and Pullman is just for owners, not hotel guests."
The couple's apartment faces west, looking out over greenery, the cityscape and up to the Domain as well as providing some views of the harbour. "Other buildings are not too close," says Peong Kiong.
As you come into the apartment, the tiled bathroom is on your right and then the tiled galley-style kitchen with F&P stove and fridge. In the kitchen corner is the laundry cupboard with a combo washing/drying machine.
The carpeted living space and dining area has a sliding glass door opening to the balcony.
The bedroom to the right also has access to this balcony and a sliding shutter allows either shade or privacy as desired for both these rooms.
"We get the morning sun," says Peong Kiong. "In summer it is not too hot as we don't get the direct afternoon sun."
Off to the left from the entrance is another bedroom. Its two sliding internal doors mean it can also be opened up to the living space.
The Quadrant's one and two-bedroom apartments are a mix of owner-occupied and others are in the hotel pool, run by VR Hotel group.
They start at about 22sq m but the couple's apartment is 41sq m (approx).
Peong Kiong has attended the body corp AGMs. "The committee consists of people who are competent and are owner-occupiers. The building is fairly well maintained."
They are selling because their daughter finished her studies at the end of last year and their son is just finishing his final exams. "We were not sure if we should sell or put it into the hotel pool. But we decided we would sell and do something else.
"Our children are becoming independent. My wife and I are also thinking of downsizing, to free up some cash and look at so-called ideal places for our next stage in life."
He imagines the apartment will appeal to other parents of university students, or young professionals who want the inner city lifestyle.
