The people of Mission Bay know a good thing when they see it. Or, in the case of new apartment development Horizon Mission Bay, before it's even constructed.
These apartments have been selling quickly off the plans, with many snapped up by locals who want to downsize to somewhere that still has all the amenities they need, and the luxury they are used to.
Andrew Weipers, the general manager of Reside, the development firm behind Horizon, says the purchasers so far have been predominantly people from the area looking for an alternative to large maintenance-intensive houses in their favoured location, and have been hugely impressed after visiting the display suite.
"It has been embraced by the local area," says Andrew. "Everyone who has come in has loved the architecture. It's been exactly what fits in Mission Bay, and they love the finishes and quality."
Locals Tony and Joanne Johnstone are among those who were won over by Horizon.
"This development is not too big, and has a modern design that is sensitive to the environment," says Tony. "It's in an area that we are already familiar with and enjoy. We are looking forward to downsizing from our present home and moving into an elegant apartment with fabulous views and an easier lifestyle without the worries of house maintenance and garden upkeep."
The Johnstones like that the apartments will be generous, with an office and a walk-in pantry off the kitchen. Having parking and storage also appeals, as does the proximity to local amenities.
Andrew says Reside is excited to be able to provide top-of-the-range apartments in an area with mostly family homes.
"This area has been very under-developed and there hasn't been an opportunity for existing residents to downsize and stay within the area. This was an amazing chance to bring to Mission Bay a high-quality product that hasn't been previously offered here."
Horizon is located on the ridge line in the popular seaside suburb, and will enjoy 360-degree views of the Waitemata Harbour, Hauraki Gulf, Rangitoto, One Tree Hill, Remuera and Meadowbank. There are 41 apartments , set in three connected pods over five levels.
Architect Buchan Group has focused on connecting the building with the landscape, using materials such as concrete and wood. Vertical Siberian timber larch battens will create a striking exterior cladding, screening and privacy.
The luxurious interiors will be both stylish and functional, with lots of open spaces and clean lines. Floor-to-ceiling double glazing will enhance the feeling of spaciousness and let in plenty of natural light, as well as framing the views.
The custom-made kitchens will feature sleek cabinetry, plenty of storage space and European appliances. The bathrooms will blend classic design with modern decor and have contemporary fixtures and fittings along with porcelain tiles and underfloor heating.
Wide-plank engineered timber flooring and 100 per cent New Zealand wool carpet will feature throughout.
The apartments will be tasteful and elegant as well as practical, says Andrew, and easy to live in.
Residents will be within walking distance of both the Eastridge Shopping Centre and Mission Bay's many shops, restaurants, cafes and bars, as well as the beach. There are good public transport links, and it is a 15-minute drive to the CBD
Reside has recently appointed Ganellen Construction, which has worked on multimillion -dollar projects in New Zealand and Australia, to build Horizon. Work is due to start next month, and the apartments should be ready to move into from mid-2020.
