Property Matters Ltd is selling a 14.8ha block of former Mangere market garden land, close to Auckland Airport and main arterial routes.
Agent Anne Gaze says the development site, at 88 Tidal Rd, has excellent connectivity and stands within Auckland Council's useful Light Industrial Zone. Tenders close at 3pm on August 24. "Landholdings of this scale and size are becoming rare at Mangere, considering that 14ha equates to about the same number of rugby fields. This is clearly going to be one of the last opportunities to secure such a site in this area."
Gaze says the land is steeped in Auckland's history. It was once owned by one of the city's original market gardeners, who migrated to the Pukekohe area, and the land had been used for horticulture for much of the past 50 years.
"Its Maori cultural connections date back to the 14th century and were carefully considered when the vendor investigated development prospects for the site.
"Archaeological experts and representatives of Te Akitai surveyed extensively during excavation, just to ensure nothing of importance lay beneath the surface."
