KEY POINTS:
Beach-Loving Kiwis looking for a bargain slice of paradise have their choice of two jewels being offered for sale in the Bay of Islands next month.
The private, subdivided estate of Mataka Station, located on the Purerua Peninsula just outside Kerikeri, is a huge 1148ha of fully operational farmland. The largest lot a cool 53.5ha is to be auctioned on February 11 and the vendor instructions are clear this sanctuary is priced to sell.
The government valuation is $2.5 million, which Bayleys agent Michael Pleciak calls "a bargain". Other lots on the conservation estate have sold for more than $3 million in recent sales.
"It's a fantastic setting and the owner has been clear that he will meet the market price," said Pleciak. "The other lots have sold for significantly more and now have substantial homes built on them, so this would be a great opportunity for somebody."
Owners of the lot have access to the entire farm, which includes private beaches, boat launching facilities, hiking and horse riding.
Another hideaway at Rockell Shores in Whananaki, just 45 minutes' drive northeast of Whangarei, offers a sheltered bach, beach and boat shed for the nature-loving Kiwi.
The endangered brown teal birds habitat the exclusive wetland and managed wildlife reserve on the 10.39ha section, for sale by tender before February 19.
The government valuation stands at $2.85 million, another bargain price for the quiet and rural waterfront property where unspoilt coastline, perfect for fishing, diving and sailing, are just a stone's throw away.
"It's a special opportunity to acquire a rarely available waterfront property of this quality."
Meanwhile, yet another multi-million dollar property on exclusive Waiheke Island is for mortgagee sale.
The house is the holiday home of property developer Mark Cooper - who is the subject of litigation by Hanover Finance - and is valued at more than $2.6 million.
The 210sq m home, which boasts three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an office, a double garage and views of Onetangi Bay, has already attracted expatriate New Zealanders living in Europe, Hong Kong and America.
Quotable Value states the property has a capital value of $2.66 million. A nearby property, capital value of around $2 million, recently sold for $1.5 million.
