Even after 10 years Jane Burton says she is still blown away by the city and harbour outlook when she comes through the front door of this top floor apartment.
"It's always the same when you open the door; the view is amazing," Jane says.
She and husband Ross boughtthe Eden Apartments two-bedder as an investment. It occupies the northern side of the building and has solid aluminium sliding doors opening to a wraparound balcony and the views -- west to the city, north over the waterfront and east towards Vector Arena. It's a grandstand view of a busy downtown area.
"The great thing about living in the city is that when you look out here there is always something happening," says Jane. "At night when you look back to the city the lights are beautiful." Entry is straight into the kitchen/living area of the apartment, which has a bedroom and bathroom either side. "It's ideal for people with a flatmate because you've got the whole living space in the middle but then each person can have their own bedroom and bathroom," says Jane.
The bedrooms open out to the balconies and have large bathrooms with glass showers. The wardrobes have been fitted with new storage systems to maximise space.
"The nice thing about this apartment is that there is a sliding door on every wall so you can always get a through breeze," Jane says.
The Burtons had been living in an apartment on Quay St and Ross kept an eye on Eden Apartments going up and could see it was a quality build when it was finished in 2004.
"I was watching all the buildings going up in the city and just knew what we wouldn't touch," says Ross. "This one has no issues. And the same building manager has been here all the time and he is absolutely amazing; he makes sure everything gets done."

Jane and Ross were early adopters of apartment living, buying their Quay St apartment in 1999.
"I don't think people realised the benefits of apartment living in the city," says Ross.
"You're at the hub of transport and there are restaurants all around. I used to have a boat at Westhaven and I would hop on my bike and go down there."
When the couple bought this apartment, it came with four car parks, some or all of which can be leased out to cover outgoings.
When their tenant of five years moved out they repainted -- introducing modern colours -- put down a wooden veneer floor in the kitchen/living area and recarpeted elsewhere. They put in roller blinds to help open the apartment up to the view, aided by the fact that the top floor has a 2.7m stud.
Though the Burtons have never lived here, Jane says owning the apartment has been "part of our passion for inner city living".
And once they had done it up, they were reluctant to let it to tenants again.
Jane says: "After we had finished we said, 'We can't rent this out again now; it's too nice'."
