Former vice chairman Dean Riddell has been appointed chairman of the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) replacing Rob Lang who has stepped down from his leadership of AMP NZ Office Trust, and with it, his chairmanship of the NZGBC. One of Riddell's first roles will be to establish a new chief executive for NZGBC, following Jane Henley's appointment as chief executive of the World Green Building Council. Riddell has served on the council's board since its inauguration almost four years ago. Riddell says the council's focus will be continued improvements to the Green Star rating to meet industry needs, as well as encouraging retrofitting of existing buildings and developing a performance tool and a residential tool. New Zealand has 37 projects certified by Green Star NZ, including the first two "world leadership" standard six-star green buildings - the Geyser in Parnell and the Christchurch Civic Building.
