For most of us indoor/outdoor living has ground level connotations, with interiors opening up to fresh air, courtyards, lawns and the like.
Up on this top-floor penthouse apartment in the new six-level Nugent Rise development, indoor/outdoor living will be a sky high affair with all the lifestyle components and more.
Here full-height, double-glazed sliding doors open the lounge to the deck and the city and harbour views.
Better still full-height, double-glazed exterior sliding windows outside the line of the structural glass balustrades enable the entire 23sq m tiled deck to function as part of the apartment or as a separate, enclosed outdoor room.
It is the urban lifestyle flexibility from the developers Neil Group who brought architects Swan Railley and the interior designer company Mode on board for this comprehensive project.
Within the apartments themselves, it is the Cedar-clad soffits that complement the Cedar cladding of the other buildings in this 10-year redevelopment that has transformed the former Ministry of Education office block and hostel into a shared-space commercial/residential/ lifestyle precinct on the "Uptown" city fringe.
Such detail is also indicative of the developer's response to market changes throughout that time. Watching an emerging gap in the Auckland apartment market, the Neil Group reconfigured plans for a second commercial building in favour of the 92 apartments that make up Nugent Rise.
A construction start date will be announced shortly and the building itself will take shape above the pre-constructed podium and basement carpark.
This is behind the 56-apartment retro-fitted Nugent Apartment block, near the refurbished cedar-clad office building and the separate car park at the southern end.

This north-facing apartment is one of the largest among the 13 penthouse apartments on the top floor and showcases the higher specifications, from the flooring options and bench top materials to double shower heads and a separate laundry.
"We're not changing too much because it is such a good specification right throughout anyway," says James Rigg, Neil Group's commercial manager.
The exterior of the building is cedar with concrete spans and punch of orange as an accent. The sleek, contemporary palette for the penthouse interior offers options not available in the lower level apartments.
For those who prefer timber floors over the tufted cut-pile solution dyed nylon carpet specified, there is 19mm solid American oak flooring for extra cost.
Its fine, clear-finished golden grain is similar to that in the laminate timber used in the kitchen.
The choice of material for the waterfall island benchtop and splashback is an engineered stone that has the soft grey grain reminiscent of Carrera marble.
It is a colour palette repeated in the family bathroom and the master en suite with Italian vitreous china basins and wall-hung natural oak timber cabinetry.
The footprint here has the kitchen, dining and living area located to the left off the central hallway. The master bedroom with its en suite and separate dressing room is through a door beyond the dining area.
Immediately to the right, off the hallway, is one of two guest bedrooms.
The second is at the end with access to the deck. Each has a fitted wardrobe and both are conveniently located to the large bathroom and separate laundry in between.
For lifestylers moving in here with their associated seasonal leisure gear, there is a locker room with secure swipe-card access.
Each penthouse has two carparks in the basement.
There are a limited number of additional carparks available for sale for $60,000 each.
