Speed is a polarising issue - some don't see the harm in low-level speeding (or even excessive speed) and some do, however, speed affects the outcome of every crash. The faster you go, the bigger the mess if you crash.
Many drivers don't like having their driving ability questioned - they might drive a nice car and believe in their ability to control their vehicle, but what they're not taking into account is the fact that other people make mistakes.
All drivers need to accept that - because we share the road with others - the speed we choose to drive at needs to leave room for human error so that a simple mistake doesn't end up costing a life. We need to drive at a safe speed for the conditions not necessarily what's on the speed limit sign.
The severity of injuries after a crash depends on the impact force so if you're driving at a slower speed the force will be less and the injuries won't be as bad. Speed reduces the time available to react to and recover from a mistake, so a slower speed may have allowed the driver in the ad to take evasive action - he would have had more time to react to the other driver's mistake.
This viral ad shows us how a simple mistake can end up with devastating consequences. Do you drive at a speed that would give you time to react if someone made a mistake on the road?
