What is the TimeOut App?
The TimeOut App for iPhone®, iPad® and Android, brings together augmented reality with the latest image recognition software to turn The New Zealand Herald's TimeOut section into an interactive print product.
What features does the TimeOut App have?
By using the new TimeOut App, you are able to bring content in The NZ Herald's TimeOut section to life each week by accessing rich content such as 3D images, video and audio tracks.
You also get the latest Entertainment news, reviews and a 'Near Me' events guide which uses location based services to find events on nearby.
What is TimeOut?
TimeOut is The New Zealand Herald's weekly entertainment magazine giving readers a vital mix of movies, music and television. With the TimeOut App, this is now able to be brought to life with augmented reality content.
Look out for the TimeOut logo on the bottom right hand corner of images which indicate what you can Scan with the App.
TimeOut is available in The New Zealand Herald each Thursday or you can download it here from Thursday 3 November.
Where do I get the TimeOut App?
You can download the TimeOut App at:
• The App Store for iPhone and iPad.
• The Android Marketplace for Android devices.
Does it cost anything to use the TimeOut App?
No. The App is free to download and use. Please do be aware however, that you will incur data charges from your mobile provider, if using 3G or your ISP if using WIFI.
How do I use the Scan function?
1. Go into your Scan function in the App, and line up the border markers on the image, with the border of the Scan area in the App.
2. Hold the device over the marker for a few seconds, you do not need to press anything, it will recognise the image you are scanning and start to load content.
TimeOut is in The New Zealand Herald this Thursday. Look for the images with the TimeOut marker in the bottom right hand corner.
Why can I not get the images to work with the App?
The images that are featured in the TimeOut magazine each week expire after one week; please ensure you are using the current issue of the TimeOut magazine. Check for the current issue at nzherald.co.nz/timeout
If you are using the current issue of TimeOut, please ensure that you are scanning an augmented reality enabled image. You can tell it is an enabled image if it has a TimeOut logo in the bottom right corner.

How do I remove the TimeOut App from my device?
Simply follow the same procedure you use for removing any other iPhone, iPad or Android App.
iPhone and iPad:
Press and hold the "TimeOut" App icon until it begins to wiggle. Press the "X" in the corner of the icon and confirm, within the pop-up window, that you wish to delete it.
Android:
Click on Applications. Navigate to settings. Select Applications > Manage Applications. Choose the TimeOut App and uninstall.

What type of device do I need to have?
On iOS the Time Out application requires iOS 4.0+ and is compatible across families iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch where camera hardware is available.
On Android the TimeOut application is supported from OS version 2.1 running ARMv7 processors and camera scanning technologies.
The following Android devices are known to be unsupported:
• HTC Dream (a.k.a G1)
• HTC Magic (a.k.a Sapphire or myTouch 3G)
• HTC Hero (a.k.a G2 myTouch)
• HTC Tattoo
• HTC Wildfire
• Known issues with video streaming on Samsung Moment
• Known issues with model rendering on HTC Hero and Motorola CLIQ
