The NZ Red Cross has an appeal that now includes the Mayoral Fund.
Trained volunteers from across the South Island have joined the organisation's team of 40 to assist people whose homes were damaged or destroyed in the earthquake. More volunteers remain on standby.
To donate to the Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake Appeal:

- Donate in person at any branch of NZ Post, Kiwibank, ANZ, National Bank, ASB and BNZ across New Zealand.
- Mail a cheque (made payable to New Zealand Red Cross) to: Canterbury Earthquake Appeal, Red Cross House, PO Box 12-140, Thorndon, Wellington 6144.
Save the Children are raising money to help children dealing with trauma after the earthquake.
Donations for the Canterbury earthquake can be made to Save the Children in several ways:

-send a cheque, to Save the Children New Zealand, at Freepost PO Box 6584, Marion Square, Wellington.

The Salvation Army has launched an appeal to help those affected by the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Canterbury on Saturday, 4 September.
Within hours of the disaster, The Salvation Army was asked to feed around 1000 people in at least two Christchurch locations, and was ready to mobilise in other areas as requested by Civil Defence. In Christchurch's suburbs and rural locations, The Salvation Army has also been responding to the emergency situation
There will be a multitude of needs in the days following the earthquake, and The Salvation Army is appealing for cash donations to strengthen its response.

Many of the big banks are also taking donations. ASB is accepting donations through internet banking or through the contact centre on 0800 803 804. People can also make donations to the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal 2010, 12-3192-0015998-01
ANZ and National Bank branches are taking donations nationwide. People can make donations at any ANZ branch by depositing money into account: 01-1839-0188939-00 or at any National Bank, the account number being: 06-0869-0548507-00.
Kiwibank is also taking donations. The account name is Red Cross and the account number is 38-9009-0759479-00.
The BNZ is taking donations for the Salvation Army under the account name: BNZ Salvation Army Canterbury Earthquake Appeal. The account number is: 02-0500-0989994-000. The bank is also taking donations on behalf of the Red Cross. The account name is: BNZ Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake Appeal. The account number is:
02-0500-0982004-000.
BNZ is also making a $1 million donation comprising of:
* $250,000 donated to the Salvation Army
* $250,000 donated to the Red Cross
* Foodstuffs vouchers
* Assistance package for customers
* Assistance package for staff
* Five additional days paid volunteer leave over the next three months to work in the community.
Catholic aid and development agency Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand has pledged $10,000 towards relief work and is taking donations by:
