Inside The Viva Sessions

Lovers of food and fashion were treated to two nights of insight and inspiration last week, as Viva delved into conversation with five top chefs, and designer Karen Walker. The team had the chance to meet many of our lovely readers inside the Nathan Club, which was beautifully transformed into a scented garden by Ecoya. Wednesday night saw Viva food editor Nici Wickes discussing the thriving restaurant industry, the politics of organics and whether diners and staff alike needed specialty training; her guests were Mike Van de Elzen, Michael Meredith of Meredith’s, Judith Tabron of Soul Bistro & Bar, Michael Dearth of Baduzzi and Chris Upton of O’Connell St Bistro. On Thursday, viva.co.nz columnist Noelle McCarthy spoke to Karen Walker about showing at New York Fashion Week, her work with the UN and the creative ideas behind her collections. The conversation was a rare and intimate chance to learn about the woman behind the global brand.

Hundreds of aviation enthusiasts turned out to see some impressive aircraft in action yesterday at a preview of the Warbirds over Wanaka show this weekend. The popular event had been grounded for the past six years, partly because of Covid pandemic restrictions. This Easter weekend it returns, with a sellout crowd of more than 60,000 people set to attend today and tomorrow. Photos / George Heard
