A ridge of high pressure moves over New Zealand today. On Friday, the ridge remains over the North Island, while a front approaches the far south, preceded by a strong northwest flow. A weak front moves north over the South Island on Saturday, while a trough to the northeast of the North Island should move away to the east. A ridge covers most of the country on Sunday, while a northwest flow develops over central and southern New Zealand ahead of an approaching front. This front, which is preceded by strong northwesterlies and followed by strong, cold southerlies, moves northwards over the South Island on Monday.
