An active front over the Tasman Sea moves onto the country today, bringing a strong northeasterly flow and periods of heavy rain. Tomorrow, the front moves away to the east, followed by showery northwesterlies. On Sunday, a broad trough moves onto New Zealand, bringing rain or showers to western areas. On Monday, the broad trough moves away to the east, followed by a narrow ridge of high pressure. On Tuesday, a front crosses the country from the west, followed by another narrow ridge of high pressure.
