Area Description:

Inshore waters from Waitarere to Pukerua Bay and out to Kapiti Island.

Situation:

A deep low is positioned just west of the South Island, moving southeastward and driving a strong northeasterly flow over New Zealand. Several fronts associated with the low will cross the country today. The large trough on Friday then shifts eastward, moving out of the region late in the day. A ridge of high pressure moves over New Zealand on Saturday. On Sunday, a low over the Tasman Sea approaches the centre of the country, followed by a strong southwesterly wind establishing itself by late Monday.

Thursday: Variable 5 knots. Northeast 10 knots developing this morning. Northeast rising to 15 knots, but 20 knots south of Otaki this afternoon, then rising to northeast 20 knots gusting 30 knots everywhere this evening. Sea becoming moderate in the south this afternoon, then everywhere this evening. Poor visibility in scattered rain. Northwest swell 1 metre rising to 1.5 metres.
