Situation:
A ridge continues to build over the South Island and lower North Island today, while a stationary front in the north brings a disturbed easterly flow to the upper North Island. The ridge of high pressure remains over the South Island on Tuesday. A low of tropical origin is moving southeast toward the North Island. The ridge is expected to move east of the South Island on Wednesday, while the low and the associated front move east across the country during Thursday. On Friday, the front is expected to move east across the Chatham Islands, while showers and cooler southerlies spreads across much of mainland New Zealand.
