A council group will spend the next few months assessing possible sites to relocate the Japanese garden demolished at Auckland Zoo in February.
The Fukuoka Friendship Garden was a gift from the sister-city in 1989 and its removal upset many local Japanese.
The council announced today that Cathy Casey will chair the Fukuoka Friendship Garden Steering Group.
Ms Casey said it was time to move on from the controversy caused by the garden's removal and use the opportunity to find a way to allow more people to enjoy the garden.
The group will review a list of possible locations, including potential reinstatement at the zoo, and make a recommendation on its future, probably in August.
