Yuki Hasumoto, 22, died when the CTV building collapsed in the earthquake.
She had enrolled at the King's Education language school, which was based there, to improve her English.
Yuki had a chef licence in her native Japan and was in New Zealand to learn how to cook international meals.
Her father told Japanese news site Asahi.com that the last he heard from his daughter was an email saying: "I am going now," on February 18.
