KEY POINTS:
Two youths are facing a number of charges after a burglary and police chase in Gisborne yesterday.
And as a result of the incident another man is facing cannabis charges.
Senior Sergeant Roger Gray said that sometime between 10am and midday two 16-year-old youths entered the complainant's home and stole three mobile phones, three ipods and cash.
The stolen items were loaded into the complainant's 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer and the car was stolen.
Mr Gray said police spotted the vehicle just after 1.30pm and there was a chase which ended with the car crashing through a fence and into a house.
No-one in the house was injured, although one youth broke his arm in the crash.
"A neighbour intervened and cornered one of the youths and held him until police arrived," Mr Gray said.
"The other was located by the cordons that were set up."
He said the stolen property was not in the car when it was found and, looking for it, police went to another address where a third person was arrested for cannabis offences.
The house the car hit had been tested by engineers and declared structurally sound. The car was a write-off
Both youths have been released on bail, one because he was in hospital and the other because he needed specialist attention for an historic broken arm.
A 37- year-old man will appear in Gisborne District Court on April 11 on cannabis charges.
