KEY POINTS:
Auckland youth worker Mark Tipene has been charged with indecent assault after he allegedly lured an intoxicated young woman to a motel so could kiss and fondle her.
Tipene, who changed his name from Mark Stephens, appeared in the North Shore District Court yesterday on two counts of indecent assault.
It is alleged the 44-year-old Browns Bay man lured the 21-year-old woman he knew into becoming intoxicated, under the pretence of becoming part of a youth-counselling programme on Tuesday. Police say Tipene then took the woman back to her house where she picked up a dress, believing she was going out.
She was then taken to the Anchor Motel in Orewa where it is alleged she was kissed and touched.
She told Tipene to stop, and he took her home again.
Judge Barbara Morris granted bail on the condition Tipene did not go within 500m of the motel. He is also not allowed in the company of females (besides those in his family) unless he is with another adult.
Tipene, supported in court by his wife, is due back in court next month.
