A Taupo teen is in Waikato Hospital after almost amputating his arm with a chainsaw today.
Lion Foundation Rescue Helicopter spokesman Dan Harcourt said the 16-year-old had been cutting firewood at a local industrial area and the saw apparently kicked back and nearly amputated his right arm near the shoulder.
The youth suffered other cuts to his right eye and chest.
He was taken to Taupo Hospital and then flown to Waikato Hospital for surgery to his arm.
Waikato Hospital reported his condition as stable and said his arm should be saved.
