A youth struck and killed by a train in the central North Island town of Tokoroa earlier this week was named by police today.
He was Timothy Nathan Nopera Popata, 16, from Tokoroa whom police had been unable to identify immediately after the incident on Monday.
He was formally identified by his parents last night and his death has been referred to a coroner.
Police said no action would be taken in regard to the train driver involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, police in Auckland were today contacting next-of-kin before releasing the name of a 43-year-old man killed after he was struck by a train yesterday.
The impact threw the man down a bank near Papakura station and he was dead when police arrived about 2pm.
Police sergeant Clive Wood said pedestrians regularly used the area as a short cut.
Train services were delayed for 80 minutes.
