The 16-year-old boy alleged to have been racing another car when he crashed, killing one of his passengers, is out on bail.
The boy, who was 15 at the time, cannot be named and appeared in the Youth Court at Auckland yesterday.
He has been charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Kathleen Wilson, two counts of dangerous driving causing injury and two of unlawfully getting into a car.
He will appear again in December after attending a family group conference.
Ms Wilson died when the stolen car she was in crashed through a metal barrier.
Ms Wilson, 25, was deaf and had attended Kelston Girls' special education centre. Staff there previously told the Herald that she "had a spark to her personality".
Passengers Danielle Rocque, 17, and Tayla Fiaola, 16, were badly injured in the crash.
Police allege that the boy abandoned Ms Wilson's body and his two injured friends and was picked up by a second car.
A 15-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to helping the youth escape from Arthur St, Onehunga, on June 18. He admitted three charges of being an accessory after the fact and one of dangerous driving causing injury.
