KEY POINTS:
A teenager has been charged with wilful damage after shots were fired outside a block of student flats on Auckland's North Shore early yesterday.
An estimated six shots were fired, hitting two cars, at a Massey University student village in Albany about 12.45am yesterday.
The shooting reportedly resulted from a road rage incident involving one of the cars -- a silver BMW.
An 18-year-old man was last night charged with wilful damage and possession of a firearm.
"The incident itself could easily have resulted in someone getting hurt or even killed, as it is high density accommodation...and the scene indicates bullets were whizzing around," North Shore area commander Inspector Les Patterson said.
