There is no need to go over the top. My party budget is $40 including food. There is no need to go overboard on food. Cheerios, chips, birthday cake and one or 2 other treats still go down well and leave left overs. I do plan some party games like pass the parcel and a treasure hunt or rocket balloon races but usually once the guests spot the 30 year old swing set in the back yard and the toy box they are not interested in games and the unwon prizes get tucked into the party bags with a few sweets. A craft activity goes down well with older kids. As does a simple beach barbeque or picnic. The whole object is for the party child and guests to have fun that is all.
