Patrick Wootton is determined to make a name for himself as a long distance runner.
And the Masterton 10-year-old has made a good start towards fulfilling that ambition.
The recent Bush Harrier Club half-marathon and 10km events held in Pahiatua gave the youngster the ideal opportunity to test himself out against much older and more experienced opposition.
One of 80 runners to contest the 10kms division - and probably the youngest by a good margin - Patrick did himself proud by placing 30th overall in a very respectable 59mins 9secs.
Interestingly, amongst the many behind him was father Gavin, who came in 41st in 1h 17m 55s.
