Students from Martinborough School and Kahutara School dug in and helped with the ongoing planting work at Wairio Wetlands in Martinborough on Friday.
The work has been going on for nine years now to help establish plant life in an area that floods easily.
Jim Law of Ducks Unlimited established the project in conjunction with the Greater Wellington Regional Council.
He said the team of volunteers had made significant progress over the past few years, building a stop bank to reduce flooding and steadily planting away.
Mr Law said the school children were a "great help".
