Young man killed as car hits power pole

An Orewa man, 22, died when the car he was driving crashed into a power pole just north of Auckland.

The three passengers in the vehicle received minor to moderate injuries in the crash on Saturday in Forge Rd, Silverdale.

Police say the serious crash unit is investigating the accident.

On Saturday evening, a person was killed near Eskdale, 20km north-west of Napier, when two cars collided on State Highway 5. At least two other people sustained moderate injuries.
