An Aucklander holidaying in the Coromandel Peninsula has been flown to Middlemore Hospital with suspected spinal injuries after a diving accident in Pauanui.
The young man in his 20s was in a serious condition with suspected injuries to his neck and spine.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter spokesman said the accident happened at about 6pm yesterday when the man jumped into the water off a jetty at the popular holiday hotspot.
St John Ambulance said the seriously injured man was taken back to Auckland for treatment at the South Auckland hospital.
Another person was taken to Middlemore Hospital following a separate water incident in Karaka.
