Governors Bay School board of trustees chairwoman Amanda Derry said they have spoken to the child's family and are supporting them.
"We were made aware of it through a Facebook post and have contacted the police about it," she said.
"We will be issuing a message to all our parents today to reinforce the safe practices messages. Make sure you know where students are meant to be and who is picking them up, that sort of thing," she said.
On Monday a 15-year-old girl was reportedly followed home by a suspicious looking man in Rolleston.
The man has been described as European, possibly in his 40s and about 185cm tall. He was wearing a grey T-shirt, camouflage pants and a camouflage backpack.
The incident happened about 2.30pm on Brookside Rd from the intersection of Rolleston Dr to the intersection of Burnham School Rd.
He followed her for about 1km, but fled when she asked a member of the public for help.
Police have said they are seeking witnesses of a man fitting this description in that area.
