KEY POINTS:
The AA and Land Transport New Zealand are trying to help make young drivers safer with the release of the Safer Young Drivers guide.
The guide aims to raise the overall standard of road safety education for young people and help increase the likelihood that young drivers who take part in road safety education become safer drivers, said AA Driver Education Foundation spokeswoman Kath Henderson.
In New Zealand, 15- to 24-year-olds make up around 16 per cent of all licence holders, but between 2004 and 2006 they accounted for 38 per cent of fatal crashes.
