A young woman found dead in the St Arnaud area in Nelson Lakes National Park was a British doctor working at Christchurch Hospital.
Susanna Illingworth, 25, was found dead next to a stream at 3pm on Friday.
Detective Sergeant Mark Kaveney of Nelson said there did not appear to be anything suspicious about her death.
"However inquiries are still continuing and a post-mortem will be carried out today."
Her family in England had been notified.
Police wanted to speak to trampers who were in the Hopeless Creek area between January 18 and 20.
